Roberto Osuna Can't Throw Slider Due To Injury

Oct 20, 2015 7:17 AM

Roberto Osuna has not been able to throw his slider, his strikeout pitch, because of a broken nail embedded in the middle finger of his pitching hand.

Osuna was given an anesthetic ointment on Monday and said it will be difficult for him to throw the slider if he is asked to pitch for the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 3 of the ALCS.

"It started against Texas the first day of the series. It started to bother me but I kept pitching on it, and at the end of the series it really hurt," Osuna said. "The side of the nail got swollen and I started bleeding, and I have been having problems ever since."

John Gibbons said he's not too concerned about Osuna's situation and that the closer used his other pitches very well previously this season.

Mets Monitoring Swelling In Matt Harvey's Right Triceps

Oct 20, 2015 7:17 AM

Matt Harvey is scheduled to start Game 5 of the NLCS, but the New York Mets are wary of swelling in the right-hander's triceps.

Terry Collins suggested that Bartolo Colon or Jonathon Niese might be needed to start against the Chicago Cubs if the series goes five games and Harvey is unable to take the mound.

Harvey was struck with a line drive off the bat of Dexter Fowler in the sixth inning of Saturday's opener against the Cubs.

"He's pretty sore and pretty swelled up," Collins said. "He, as we sit here today, is a go. But that could certainly change in next couple of days. ... I was pretty surprised at how swelled up it was yesterday. So we certainly are going to keep a really close eye on it the next couple of days."

Harvey, who is 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA in two postseason starts, lightly tossed a baseball in the outfield at Wrigley Field on Monday.

Oct 14, 2015 7:22 AM

Salvador Perez says he will no doubt play in Game 5 of the ALDS against the Houston Astros on Wednesday.

Perez didn't finish Game 4 as the Kansas City Royals rallied to force a deciding game. He passed a concussion test after being hit in the mask by a foul ball. He was also hit by a pitch in the left side during the game.

"They did a concussion test after the game yesterday in the trainer's room, but I passed everything," Perez said. "Everything is great; everything is good. I will catch tomorrow."

The St. Louis Cardinals have scratched Yadier Molina from the lineup for Game 4 of the NLDS against the Chicago Cubs after the catcher experienced weakness in his injured left thumb.

Mike Matheny announced the lineup change before Tuesday's game, saying that he had penciled Molina into the original lineup because he expected that the All-Star would respond well to overnight treatment to his thumb.

Oct 13, 2015 7:05 AM
