Brian Snitker Hopes To Manage Braves Next Season

Sep 25, 2017 12:04 AM

Brian Snitker is on a one-year contract and doesn't know if he will return next year as manager of the Braves.

The 61-year-old Snitker, in his 41st season with the organization, hopes the front office brings him back despite his 127-148 record since replacing Fredi Gonzalez last year.

"I'd love to be here," Snitker told The Associated Press on Friday. "I want to be here. We'll see."

R.A. Dickey Contemplating Retirement At Age 42

Sep 22, 2017 7:31 AM

R.A. Dickey pitched eight effective innings against the Washington Nationals on Thursday night in what could be the final home start of his career.

Dickey isn't sure if he'll return to the Atlanta Braves in 2018, or even still be pitching in the Major Leagues.

"I'd be lying to say I didn't have some emotions about it," Dickey said. "This could be my last start ever at a home venue. But we're going to make that decision at the end of the season and see how I feel and what goes on there."

The knuckle-baller gave up two runs, four hits and no walks. The Braves hold a $8 million option on his contract for next season.

"I certainly feel I have a lot more in me, yes," Dickey said.

"If I did not continue to play, it would be because our family decided it wasn't the best thing. I've dragged my kids all over the world playing baseball for 21 years. You know, there comes a time they deserve their dad to be around."

Ronald Acuna Named Baseball America Minor League POY

Sep 10, 2017 9:55 AM

Ronald Acuna has been named the 2017 Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year.

Past winners include Frank Thomas (1990), Derek Jeter (1994) and Mike Trout (2011).

Acuna, an outfielder in the Atlanta Braves' system, led the minor leagues with 181 hits en route to a .325/.374/.522 season. Acuna also had 21 home runs while stealing 44 bases in 64 attempts.

"I had an opportunity with (Ken Griffey) Jr., with Alex (Rodriguez), and now Acuna," Gwinnett hitting coach John Moses, who played and coached with Griffey and Rodriguez in the Mariners system, said. "I mean, you can throw him into that lot of guys, for me, at 19 years old. He's only going to get better. The guys are special when they come around like this."

Braves Offering Free Tickets To Hurricane Irma Evacuees

Sep 9, 2017 9:41 PM

The Atlanta Braves are offering free tickets to this weekend's series against the Miami Marlins to residents of Florida, Georgia and South Carolina that are under evacuation orders as a result of Hurricane Irma.

Residents of the evacuating counties can come to the Braves ticket office on the day of the game, show their valid state I.D. and receive a complimentary ticket.

"We know how difficult it has been for those who have had to pack up and leave their homes as Hurricane Irma approaches," said Derek Schiller, Braves President of Business. "We hope we can help take their mind off the storm for a few hours by coming to enjoy a baseball game at SunTrust Park."

Braves Trade Brandon Phillips To Angels

Sep 2, 2017 2:20 PM

The Los Angeles Angels acquired Brandon Phillips from the Atlanta Braves on Thursday night.

Phillips agreed to waive his partial no-trade clause to join the Angels.

"Right now, my No. 1 goal is to get a ring and play for the Angels," he said. "I didn't want to leave here, but a team called me. They want me to come out there and help them win. Hopefully, I can do that."

The Angels sent Minor League catcher Tony Sanchez to the Braves to complete the trade.
