Equipment Malfunction Caused False Alarm At SunTrust Park

May 24, 2017 7:25 AM

The Atlanta Braves said an equipment malfunction caused a false alarm at SunTrust Park on Tuesday night.

In the top of the third inning, an emergency alarm sounded in the ballpark and a disturbing message was posted on the scoreboard. The alarm sounded for about five seconds and a message stated that an emergency had been reported in the building and that an evacuation was taking place.

R.A. Dickey paused for a couple of seconds to make his next pitch to Andrew McCutchen, but the umpires did not stop play, and the game continued.

The Braves tweeted in the fourth inning that "everything is operating normally" and "we apologize for the inconvenience."

An apparent altercation with fans in one of the ballpark restaurants caused the alarm to get sounded.

Freddie Freeman Out 10 Weeks With Fractured Wrist

May 19, 2017 7:09 AM

The Atlanta Braves will be without Freddie Freeman for approximately 10 weeks after an MRI and CT scan revealed a nondisplaced left wrist fracture.

Freeman will wear a cast for four weeks.

The first baseman leads the Major Leagues with a .748 slugging percentage and is second with a .461 on-base percentage. His 2.5 WAR was tied for third in baseball.

"The more disappointing fact is we had started playing good baseball as a team," Freeman said. "I never play this game for myself. I just come in every day to try to help this team win and get back to the playoffs because it has been four years. ... I could care less about personal statistics at this point."

Braves Miffed After Jose Bautista Homers, Stares Down Pitcher

May 18, 2017 8:23 AM

Benches emptied in Wednesday's game between the Atlanta Braves and Toronto Blue Jays after Jose Bautista hit a home run, stood at home plate and stared toward Eric O'Flaherty before flipping the bat away.

Jace Peterson said something to Bautista as he rounded first, and Kurt Suzuki was waiting for Bautista when he touched home.

"That's something making the game tough to watch," O'Flaherty said, referring to previous home run celebrations by the Toronto slugger. "It's turned into look-at-me stuff. He hit a home run with [the Braves holding] a five-run lead and throws the bat around. I'm just tired of it. I've seen it from him enough."

O'Flaherty then brought up a punch that Bautista took just over a year ago during a scuffle with Rougned Odor of the Texas Rangers.

"I'm surprised he's ready to fight after last year," O'Flaherty said.

Bautista said he hoped to move on.

"I understand why [the Braves] would be upset in that situation, and I just told them how I felt," he said. "Basically just let them know that I wasn't trying to show up anybody and hopefully it's in the past. It has nothing to do with [frustration], but it was definitely not something that was fitting for the moment.

"Sometimes our competitive juices come out in the wrong moment. We have to deal with it between the lines like men -- I feel like I did that and hopefully that's enough."
