During spring training, the Sox informed Paul Konerko they would not talk about a new deal until the season came to an end. Konerko wanted to get a deal done, even saying he was "not looking to break the bank," but agreed to wait. He also agreed to stay out of the newspapers with his concerns. The rumor mill that is major league baseball makes that hard sometimes, especially with the regular season coming to an end next weekend. The Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have supposedly targeted Konerko as a free agent. "I'm not surprised to hear stuff like that because that's the way it works," Konerko said Friday. "Especially as you get closer to the end of a season and people start looking ahead to the offseason. My whole thing is to just get through these last 10 games and get to the playoffs. I'll figure out the rest of my baseball life later on. I owe that much to my teammates."
