There are several teams that are interested in Alfonso Soriano as an outfielder. The Houston Astros had strong interest during the winter meetings last year, and the Chicago Cubs pursued their interest in Soriano this season at the July 31 trade deadline. Soriano doesn't like such talk. "I get mad," Soriano said. "They say I have the ability, but they don't know how I feel mentally. They don't know how I would take to that. I don't see myself playing outfield." So Soriano remains at second base for the Rangers, while top prospect Ian Kinsler waits for his chance after hitting .274 with 102 runs, 23 home runs and 94 RBI at Triple A Oklahoma. The Rangers wouldn't mind trading Soriano for pitching if they could get a front-line starting pitcher in return. But club officials don't see that happening. Most signs point toward Soriano returning to the Rangers, unless a team such as the New York Mets is willing to overpay for his offense.
