The Pittsburgh Pirates and left fielder Jason Bay have begun talks on a long-term contract, sources close to the negotiations said Sunday. Bay, the 2004 National League Rookie of the Year, is having an outstanding season as he is hitting .305 with 30 homers and 90 RBIs. He is also the only Pirates player to appear in all 149 games this season, starting each of them. Bay would not become eligible for salary arbitration until after next season and could not become a free agent until following the 2009 season.
