According to multiple Major League sources, the Cardinals and Blue Jays are expected to complete a swap of third basemen, sending Scott Rolen to Toronto in exchange for Troy Glaus. Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak, reached at his office at Busch Stadium, declined to confirm or deny the talks, but acknowledged that he is working on "a number of things." But several sources confirmed a deal is in the works, with one industry source saying that he would be "startled" if the trade does not happen. Rolen, who will turn 33 in the season's first week, is a five-time All-Star and seven-time Gold Glover. However, he battled shoulder problems en route to one of his worst Major League seasons in 2007. He batted .265 with a .331 on-base percentage and a .398 slugging percentage in 392 at-bats. His season came to an early end when he underwent left shoulder surgery in September. Rolen has also feuded with St. Louis manager Tony La Russa, and requested a trade when La Russa re-signed for two more seasons as the Cardinals skipper.
