Colorado Rockies ace Jeff Francis and Boston Red Sox reliever Eric Gagne have a chance to make history as the first Canadian duo to ever see action in the same World Series, according to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. Francis, the left-hander from North Delta, B.C., is slated to pitch in Game 1 on Wednesday at Fenway Park, becoming the first Canadian to make a Series start since Boston's Reggie Cleveland in 1975 in the process. Should Gagne, the reliever from Mascouche, Que., also see action, it would mark the first time two Canadians participated in the same World Series, according to the Hall. The last Canadian player to win a World Series was Rob Butler of Toronto with the 1993 Blue Jays. Dave McKay of Vancouver earned a ring last year as first base coach for the St. Louis Cardinals. Larry Walker of Maple Ridge, B.C., is the most recent Canadian to play in the Fall Classic. He played for the Cardinals during their four-game loss to Boston in 2004.
