The Ken Griffey Jr.-to-Chicago White Sox rumors popped up again in Chicago. ESPN Radio, out of Chicago, reported that talks had heated up. Not so, said Reds general manager Dan O'Brien. "Nothing has changed," he said. "There's no basis in fact for that." The radio report said the White Sox were willing to pay more of Griffey's remaining contract, as well as sweeten the prospect package. The constant stirring of the rumor mill is amusing to Griffey. "I'm not going to discuss it without my lawyer present," he said. "The ballclub has not come to me with a formal offer." Have they come to you with an informal offer? "No offer," he said. Then he laughed. Griffey's name has been linked to the White Sox since a report came out shortly after the July 31 non-waiver deadline that the Reds and White Sox agreed to a deal, only to have it nixed by Reds chief operating officer Carl Lindner. The Reds denied that report.
