Adrian Gonzalez joined the Rangers on Thursday and was immediately inserted in the lineup, an indication that designated hitter Phil Nevin's playing time will be reduced. The Rangers still plan to use Nevin as their designated hitter next year, but club officials indicated they will at least explore the possibility of trading him before Aug. 31, the day postseason rosters have to be set. Because he is signed for $10 million next year, he should have no trouble clearing waivers, which would allow the Rangers to trade him.
