Eric Gagne stood in the tunnel leading to the dugout before yesterday?s game sounding like a man with a purpose. Things have been bad, and the Red Sox reliever is determined to make them good.
?It?s a bunch of little things,? Gagne said. ?I don?t know exactly what it is, but I?ll figure it out.?
Yesterday, he embarked on his latest attempt to determine why he?s lost the dominance that helped put him in a Red Sox uniform at the trade deadline. Starting at 1 p.m., Gagne was in the back room of the Sox clubhouse pouring over video, looking for anything and everything that might have contributed to his three-run ninth inning against the Angels on Friday night.
?I still believe I threw the ball good, so that?s what I have to figure out,? he said. ?I?m working my way out of it, that?s the only way I know how to do it. You?ve just got to work hard. That?s the only thing you can control is hustle and how hard you work. And that?s what I?m going to keep doing until I find my way out of it.?
