Padres shortstop Khalil Greene broke his left big toe Sunday and is expected to miss two to three weeks.
Greene jammed his toe into the ground while diving for Todd Pratt's single to left field in the third inning of San Diego's 8-3 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.
"It's frustrating, but it's a part of the game," Greene said. "It's disappointing, but there's not much you can do about it."
Greene, expected to be placed on the disabled list Monday, missed three weeks earlier this season when he broke his right ring finger on April 17. The runner-up to Pittsburgh's Jason Bay last season for NL Rookie of the Year, Greene also broke his right index finger last Sept. 13 and missed the rest of the season except for two appearances as a pinch-runner.
