Hal Steinbrenner, the Yankees executive vice president and treasurer of Yankee Global Enterprises, LLC, endorsed Brian Cashman as general manager yesterday. Steinbrenner, the son of owner George Steinbrenner and his possible successor, has taken on an increased role in the organization recently. He, older brother Hank Steinbrenner and Felix Lopez, the husband of Jessica Steinbrenner, have taken top duties since the news this spring that Jenny Steinbrenner was getting divorced from Steve Swindal, who was the planned future head of the Yankees. At a Yankee Stadium event yesterday to unveil the 2008 All-Star Game logo, Steinbrenner was asked if he thought Cashman would be back next year. "I hope so," Steinbrenner said. "On the daily side, I've only been involved for about a month."
