Jermaine Dye has received varying degrees of interest from Boston, Seattle, San Diego and the New York Mets. Interest from the Los Angeles Dodgers apparently has cooled. Arizona, which doesn't have the financial resources to bid, has a plethora of enticing prospects.
Dye has hit five homers in the second half, including a three-run shot Wednesday night off Detroit left-hander Kenny Rogers. Dye also has a limited no-trade clause, so he will have a strong say in where he goes if the Sox have a trade for him.
The chances look iffy at this point.
"Some [rumors] are true, some aren't," said Dye, who added that his agent, Bob Bry, has spoken recently with Williams. "A lot of rumors are being thrown around. I want to be here. If I'm gone, then I'll just put that uniform on and give them 100 percent for the rest of the year and see what happens."
