Mets outfielder and rookie Carlos Gomez will be out six to eight weeks. Gomez underwent surgery after breaking a bone in his left hand on a checked swing. Ricky Ledee started Thursday night and David Newhan is on his way back to the majors to take Gomez' roster spot. Moises Alou and Endy Chavez were already out of the lineup and are not yet ready to return. "He was in pain," manager Willie Randolph said about the 21-year-old Gomez. "I think he actually did it before he made the out. It happens sometimes. I've seen it happen many times."
