The way in which Elijah Dukes chose to answer questions on the radio Tuesday morning did not make his position with Tampa Bay any better. The one that jumped out was the troubled Devil Rays outfielder's answer to a rather straightforward question. "Do I need help? No, I don't need no help," Dukes insisted, anger evident in his voice. "Everybody needs guidance. Do I need guidance? Yeah, I need guidance. Sometimes you need somebody to talk to. But do I need help? No, I don't need help." The Devil Rays disagreed, and they finally acted Friday after a series of allegations that embarrassed both the player and the team. The Rays optioned Dukes to the minor leagues and placed him on the temporary inactive list, getting him away from the team after he had become a distraction to the work at hand while also giving him a chance to right himself away from the ballpark.
