ESPN reported on Tuesday that outfielder Torii Hunter has a torn tendon in his left ankle in addition to a fracture, which had Twins officials fielding inquiries from the local media. They maintain that all Hunter has is a fracture. "If it's torn, that's news to me," General Manager Terry Ryan said. Twins team physician John Steubs also disputed the report. He said there were initial concerns that there was damage to the tendon, but exams Monday revealed only the fracture. Steubs said there also are some stretched ligaments in the ankle, as expected. Hunter, who broke the ankle when he crashed into a wall at Fenway Park in Boston on Friday, will be on crutches for at least a month and is expected to miss the rest of the season. For now, there are no plans for surgery. Steubs said Hunter could have suffered tendon damage if his foot had turned out, instead of in, when his foot stuck in the padded wall.
