The strained left thigh muscle suffered by Devil Rays 2B B.J. Upton on Friday in Miami turned out to be more serious than the team originally thought. Upton, who hasn't played since he hurt himself running to first base in the first inning of Tampa Bay's 14-8 loss to the Marlins, was placed on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to Friday), and OF Jonny Gomes was recalled from Triple-A Durham. "The way it was feeling, I didn't think it would be this long," Upton said. "But obviously, there's a little more to it. The trainers in the back, they know what they're doing. So, I've just got to listen to them."
