The Preston Wilson Era with the Cardinals probably is over.
Wilson, a 32-year-old reserve outfielder, will need six to nine months of recovery time after knee surgery Monday in Vail, Colo.
Dr. Richard Steadman of the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic performed the surgery.
Wilson has been out since May 5 with knee problems. The righthanded batter hit only .219 with 17 strikeouts in 64 at-bats. He had just one homer, but that was a game-winning, two-run blast off lefthander Ted Lilly in Chicago in a 2-1 Cardinals win April 21.
