Reds right fielder Ryan Freel suffered a contusion of the neck and head following a collision with teammate Norris Hopper in the third inning of Monday's game against the Pirates. The injury took place when Pirates catcher Humberto Cota drilled a line drive into the right-center field gap, and Freel made a circus catch but was clipped by Hopper, who sent the third-year outfielder sprawling on the warning track. Freel, who seemed to have slammed his head on the ground, then lay motionless in front of the wall until he was immobilized and transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, where the CT scan revealed his injuries.
