New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a left calf strain, the team announced Thursday. Manager Carlos Mendoza warned the five-time All-Star is "going to be down for quite a bit" after MRI results were reviewed by multiple specialists.
Lindor sustained the injury Wednesday while scoring from first base on a Francisco Alvarez double during New York's 3-2 win over the Minnesota Twins. He visibly labored around the bases before sliding home safely, then did not return for the fifth inning.
Mendoza drew a clear distinction between Lindor's situation and Juan Soto's recent calf injury.
"We're not dealing with the same thing here," Mendoza said, indicating Lindor's strain is more serious than the favorable outcome the Mets received with Soto, who returned Wednesday after missing time with a right calf strain.
It marks Lindor's first IL stint since straining his right oblique in July 2021. The 32-year-old had appeared in every game this season after missing most of spring training with a fractured left hamate bone. He is hitting .226 with two home runs and five RBIs.
Bo Bichette shifted from third base to shortstop following Lindor's exit. Mendoza stopped short of naming Bichette the permanent replacement, saying the club may add another option at the position.
The Mets recalled infielder Ronny Mauricio and right-hander Christian Scott from Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday.
