Netflix is in discussions to bring Barry Bonds into its broadcast setup for MLB Opening Day, when the San Francisco Giants host the New York Yankees on March 25, according to sources familiar with the talks. No agreement has been finalized.

Sources indicate Bonds would be present for pregame and postgame coverage. Netflix is separately pursuing former Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia for a role representing the New York side of the matchup.

Sabathia has prior broadcast experience, including work on MLB Network's "Clubhouse Edition," a podcast with ESPN's Ryan Ruocco, and occasional appearances on the Yankees' YES Network.

Netflix has already signed former ESPN anchor Elle Duncan as its lead studio host across all sports programming. Duncan is expected to anchor both the pregame and postgame shows for Opening Day. The streaming platform has not yet announced a play-by-play caller or game analysts.

The Giants' opener marks the first of three seasons Netflix will stream MLB content. The platform's agreement also covers the Home Run Derby and the Aug. 13 "Field of Dreams" game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Minnesota Twins in Dyersville, Iowa.

Bonds, 61, retired after the 2007 season and holds the all-time major league home run record at 762. Despite being widely regarded among the sport's elite players, he remains outside the Hall of Fame due to his ties to performance-enhancing drugs. He fell 9 percent short of the required 75 percent threshold in his final BBWAA ballot year in 2022.

If signed, Bonds would join a list of figures with complicated legacies now working in sports media. Alex Rodriguez, suspended in 2014 for PED use, has worked with Fox Sports for nearly a decade. Bonds previously returned to the sport as hitting coach for the Florida Marlins in 2016.
