The Tampa Bay Devil Rays are known as one of baseball's weakest franchises. But led by principal owner Stuart Sternberg, new ownership is thinking outside the box to boost the organization's standing. The team will temporarily move its home field to Disney World in an upcoming series versus the Texas Rangers. Matt Silverman, Tampa Bay's 30-year-old president, said that ?there are blemishes and there are challenges? while adding that ?this is a work in progress.? The word "Devil" may soon be erased from the team's name. ?We expect to change our uniform and our colors and our logo effective for the 2008 season,? said Silverman. The Rays are also experimenting with other ideas, such as giving fans who attend games free parking and letting them bring their own food and beverages. New management has invested $18 million in improvements to the team's unpopular indoor stadium, which opened in 1990.
