Looking to add a potential first-round pick before the June draft, the Padres likey will offer at least $1 million to 2006 draftee Matt Latos this week. Latos put on a show for Kevin Towers on Friday after the Padres GM took a red-eye flight to Florida to see the right-hander pitch for Broward Community College. Towers said Latos clocked at 94-98 mph across seven scoreless innings and hammered the strike zone. Indications are the Padres will offer a seven-figure sum to keep Latos, 19, from becoming another club's first-round draft pick in June. ?It's tough to find 98-mph arms around,? Towers said. ?We're going to be very fair.?
