Vida Blue has passed away at the age of 73.

Blue won the American League MVP, Cy Young award and pitching title in 1971, his third MLB season. The year also marked his first of six All-Star selections. Blue led the AL with a 1.82 ERA and pitched eight shutouts while going 24-8 in 312.0 innings pitched in 1971.

Blue pitched 17 seasons in the MLB.

Blue retired in 1986 with a career 3.27 ERA, 2,175 strikeouts and 37 shutouts in 502 appearances. The A’s inducted him into their Hall of Fame in 2019.
