Jordan Lawler, the sixth overall pick in the 2021 Major League Baseball draft, will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery after playing just two professional games.

Arizona Diamondbacks farm director Josh Barfield says the 19-year-old shortstop will undergo a procedure to repair a posterior labrum tear. Lawlar should be recovered in time for the 2022 season.

Lawlar, signed to an above-slot $6.71 million signing bonus, was considered one of the top players available in this year's draft.
