Serguey Linares, a former pitcher in Cuba's national league, agreed Monday to a minor league contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates and was invited to spring training. The 23-year-old right-hander is the second former Cuban professional pitcher to sign with the Pirates, joining Yoslan Herrera. Linares had a career record of 7-20 with a 5.59 ERA in 37 games in his Cuban pro career.
