The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced they have signed free agent right-handed pitcher Tony Armas Jr. to a contract for the 2007 season, with a club option for 2008. The announcement was made by Dave Littlefield, the Pirates' Senior Vice President and General Manager. No other terms of the deal were announced. Armas Jr., 28, went 9-12 with a 5.03 ERA (154.0ip/86er) in 30 starts with the Washington Nationals last season. The eight-year veteran made his major league debut with Montreal in 1999 and has produced a 48-60 record and a 4.45 ERA in 151 big-league starts.
