Outfielder Endy Chavez, whose spectacular catch in Game 7 of the NL championship series saved a two-run homer, agreed Tuesday with the New York Mets on a one-year contract worth $1,725,000. Chavez leaped at the left-field wall to snare Scott Rolen's sixth-inning drive off Oliver Perez with a runner on, keeping the score tied 1-1. Yadier Molina hit a two-run homer in the ninth, helping St. Louis win 3-1. The Cardinals went on to win their first World Series title since 1982.
