Matt Holliday left Thursday night's gameafter getting hit on the nose by a pitch.

The St. Louis Cardinals said Holliday's nose was not fractured, but said he had a facial abrasion by his nose and upper lip. He showed no signs of a concussion and has been listed as day-to-day.

"I hate seeing that," Mike Matheny said. "I think we got real fortunate. Getting hit in the face, it's hard to say it's fortunate, but it could have been a lot worse. His beak's a little sore right now and still had a little blood leaking out of it, but structurally, everything checked out good."

Holliday immediately dropped after a 95 mph fastball by Andrew Cashner of the San Diego Padres came high and inside and caromed off the batter's nose in the sixth inning. Holliday got up and tried to take first base as blood poured out of his nose.
