Omar Minaya spoke with Toronto general manager J.P. Ricciardi about Blue Jays outfielder Vernon Wells, according to a person with knowledge of the chat. Ricciardi now knows that before he decides to make any move with his All-Star center fielder, who turns 28 on Friday, that he should talk to Minaya first. Wells, who batted .303 with 32 homers and 106 RBI last season, can become a free agent following next season, and the Blue Jays are not expected to retain him. He is due another $5.6 million in 2007.
