The Mets activated infielder Miguel Cairo from the disabled list Saturday and optioned outfielder Victor Diaz to Triple-A Norfolk. Cairo, batting .286 with one homer and six RBI, had been on the 15-day DL since June 15 with a strained left hamstring. He was not in New York's starting lineup Saturday against the Marlins. "I feel good," he said. "Just happy to be back. I'm ready." Diaz was hitting .242 with five homers and 18 RBI in 124 at-bats with the Mets. He had a solid .369 on-base percentage. New York manager Willie Randolph said Diaz, who used to play second base in the minors, will try his hand at first base with Norfolk. The Mets have a crowded outfield, but they could use some offense at first. "He's played some infield before. We're going to see how he looks over there," Randolph said. "There's no guarantee he's going to come up and play first base."
