Major League Baseball has suspended Manny Machado for five games and fined him an undisclosed amount for intentionally throwing his bat on the field during Sunday's game against the Oakland Athletics.

Multiple media outlets have reported that Machado plans to appeal the suspension.

Sunday's incident was the culmination of an eventful weekend for Machado, who also was involved in an altercation Friday when he didn't like the force of the tag put on him by Oakland third baseman Josh Donaldson.
