The Kansas City Royals have designated Justin Maxwell for assignment.

The 30-year-old had just four hits and two walks to go with 15 strikeouts in 32 plate appearances.

Maxwell agreed to a one-year, $1.325 million deal, which avoided arbitration, with the Royals this offseason.
