Bill Buckner is stepping down as a minor league hitting coach in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Buckner, 64, spent the past two seasons with the Boise Hawks of the short-season Class A Northwest League.

"Just too much time away," he told reporters. "My wife has put up with it for 30-something years."

Buckner won the 1980 National League batting title and appeared in the 1981 All-Star Game while playing for the Cubs.
