The New York Yankees still have Brett Gardner after signing Jacoby Ellsbury.

They continue to say they have two center fielders, while Ellsbury's huge contract seems to indicate he would play the premium position.

The Yankees may be trying to replicate what the Boston Red Sox did with Ellsbury and Shane Victorino, having the pair play the two most different outfield spots. Left field is harder to field than right field at Yankee Stadium, which could see Ellsbury spent some time there.

The dynamic would change if New York trades Gardner.
