Drayton McLane and general manager Tim Purpura have told Craig Biggio and his agent, Barry Axelrod, that they want to work out a deal after the season. "We've said all along that Craig Biggio is an important part of the Houston Astros," McLane said. "He's getting ready to make history sometime in the middle of next year. And he's going to be an important part of the Houston Astros. "There's never been any doubt about (Biggio getting 3,000 hits in an Astros uniform.) Craig knows that. Barry Axelrod, who we're very close to, Tim and I both have talked to him. We just said, 'Let's let the season get behind us and then we're ready to refocus.'"
