David Price has apologized for a Twitter rant following a poor start against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday night.

Price mentioned David Ortiz and the TBS studio broadcast team during the rant.

"I reached out to [Ortiz] and I told him how much I respect him and what he means to the game," Price said.

"I told him I thought he was one of the best [designated hitters] to have ever played the game, if not the best, and told him the respect I have for him. He's always taken the time to talk to people before the game, to kids, to sign autographs. He's always taken the time to go over and talk to my mom and dad, and I respect him for the type of person he is."

He also admonished the media, mumbling, "Nice questions, nerds," upon exiting the podium, and followed that up with criticism on social media about TBS broadcasters Tom Verducci and Dirk Hayhurst.

"I'm embarrassed for myself and the organization," Price said. "I apologize for my actions to everyone involved. This game is very special to me, and I treated it with disrespect by doing what I did. I love what I do, and the game of baseball has made me into the person I am today."
