Mariano Rivera gave up home runs to Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez in the ninth inning on Sunday, blowing his third straight save for the New York Yankees.

Rivera has a record 643 saves, but had never failed three in a row in 1,087 relief appearances coming into Sunday's game.

"At least it's the first time, you know what I mean?" Rivera said. "I just try to go out there and do my job. The last three opportunities, I haven't done it. So we have to continue battling and get better. Have to keep working and eventually it will happen."

Rivera has a 2.44 ERA and 35 saves in 2013, his final season.
