Days before Ugueth Urbina was traded to the Phillies, the Marlins tried to get the right-handed reliever from the Detroit Tigers by offering relievers Guillermo Mota and Yorman Bazardo. The proposed deal was nixed because the Tigers didn't want to take a chance on Mota and the Marlins couldn't afford to add Urbina's $4 million salary. Urbina helped the Marlins to their championship in 2003, recording saves in the decisive games in the division series and NLCS. But the Marlins decided not to re-sign him after the season.
