Mike Trout, who was considered by many to be the best defensive player in baseball last year, is having a poor defensive season.

According to Baseball-Reference.com, Trout has a -12 Defensive Runs Saved. Only Michael Morse (-15) has a lower total.

There are three reasons why Trout's numbers are so poor:

1. He isn't making as many spectacular plays.

2. He hasn't robbed any home runs.

3. He has made a few mistakes on fly balls.

Regardless of the stats, no one seems too concerned about Trout's ability.

"Put it this way," a scout said, "I'd rather he be in position to get the 27th out of the game than anyone else."
