Chase Headley has said that he won't discuss a contract extension during the season, but that hasn't forced the San Diego Padres to change their stance on trading him.

Sources close to the organization say it's "unlikely" that Headley will be dealt.

The Padres acknowledged that they weren't able to get far in contract talks with Headley this winter. They were believed to be shooting for a contract south of $100 million.

"Our first choice is to sign him," Padres general manager Josh Byrnes said.
