David Ortiz stepped into the cage at 5:13 p.m. ET on Monday and began his quest to get back into the lineup. It is Ortiz's hope that Red Sox medical director Dr. Thomas Gill will clear him to be back in there for Tuesday night's game against the White Sox. Ortiz was in the hospital so doctors could try to determine why he had heart palpitations twice in a 10-day period in late August.
"I feel good, I'm going to be out there working out today, doing hitting and all my stuff," said Ortiz. "If everything goes well, maybe I'll be in there tomorrow, hopefully. I can't wait to start playing, dude."
