Ryan Howard homered his way into a tie with Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt, by smacking his 48th home run on Tuesday. The powerful Howard sent a 2-2 pitch from Kevin Gryboski to straight-away center field, bouncing off the high facing above the 410-foot sign and onto the field. The shot added three runs to Philadelphia's lead, and turned a three-run game into a six-run rout. Howard charged to the mark with homers in four straight games, and five in six games. He now has 125 RBIs, or five more than Schmidt had during his MVP and record-setting season in 1980.
