Catcher Javier Valentin and the Reds agreed Monday on a $1,325,000, one-year contract extension through the 2007 season. The switch-hitting Valentin entered Monday night's game at Dodger Stadium batting .237 in 77 games with six home runs and 21 RBIs. His four pinch homers are the most in the NL, and one shy of the season club record set by Jerry Lynch in 1961. "I'm happy because it gave me the opportunity to play," Valentin said. "I couldn't turn it down, because now I can go home and relax, knowing I have a job for next year. It's a good organization and very professional. I like it here, I want to be here, and I'm playing with a good group of guys."
