Adam Wainwright struck out 10 batters in less than six innings against the Nationals on Sunday, but St. Louis still dropped Game 1.
Wainwright is the first Cardinals pitcher with a double-digit strikeout game in the postseason since Bob Gibson.
Gibson did it five times, most recently in Game 4 of the 1968 World Series against the Tigers.
