Brandon McCarthy has taken a few steps and is making progress in his recovery from surgery after getting hit in the head by a line drive last week.

Athletics trainer Nick Paparesta says that McCarthy is likely to leave the hospital soon. Paparesta said Saturday that McCarthy was still in a "life-threatening" situation.

"I think that we're a little bit more comfortable with where he is and how he's doing, absolutely," he said.
