In a busy final few hours before the trading deadline Monday, there were a plethora of small deals that will help out both the buyers and sellers of this market. Here is a quick rundown of all the player movement today: The Cardinals added minimal help to their team with the addition of second baseman Ronnie Belliard from the Cleveland Indians for infielder Hector Luna. The move was the only move made by the Redbirds at the deadline. The Cincinnati Reds went about adding more pitching depth for their stretch run with the additions of Rheal Cormier from the Philadelphia Phillies and Kyle Lohse from the Minnesota Twins. Both teams received a prospect each for their trouble in this deal. In Detroit, the Tigers added some meat to their order with the trade for Sean Casey from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for a minor league pitcher. Casey will man the first base responsibilities now for the Tigers, as Chris Shelton was also designated for assignment in concert with this move. The Mets were busy today in efforts to help their bullpen with the additons of Roberto Hernandez and Oliver Perez from the Pirates for outfielder Xavier Nady. They then turned Perez around, along with reliever Heath Bell to the San Diego Padres for set-up man Scott Linebrink. In Texas, the Rangers proved to be buyers again with the addition of outfielder Matt Stairs from the Kansas City Royals for a minor league pitcher. New Royals? general manager Dayton Moore continued to rebuild the franchise later in the day with a deal with the Colorado Rockies that brought him first basemen Ryan Shealy and pitcher Scott Dohmann in exchange for pitchers Jeremy Affeldt and Denny Bautista. The Rangers also added to their pitching staff with Kip Wells from the Pittsburgh Pirates for a minor league pitcher. The Dodgers were also very busy today with two big trades that netted them infielder Juilo Lugo from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Greg Maddux from the Chicago Cubs. The Dodgers sent infielder Cesar Izturis to the Cubs and sent two outfield prospects to the Devil Rays, including top prospect Joel Guzman. The Cubs weren?t done dealing as they sent infielder Todd Walker to the San Diego Padres in exchange for a minor league pitcher. Finally, after stealing all of the spotlight from this deadline with the addition of Bobby Abreu and Cory Lidle, the Yankees continued to add with 1B/OF Craig Wilson from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for pitcher Shawn Chacon.
