Gio Gonzalez won his 16th game of the season on Sunday as the Nationals defeated the Mets 5-2.

Gonzalez allowed one run on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out three batters and threw 110 pitches.

Davey Johnson said Gonzalez was leaving pitches up in the strike zone, and the manager thought his pitcher was affected by a 2 hour, 26 minute rain delay.

Regardless, he has won more games in a season than anyone else since the Nationals moved to Washington in 2005.

"It means a lot," Gonzalez said. "This is a thank you to the bullpen, a thank you to the team, but we're not done yet. We've got to continue to keep playing and hopefully we stay that way and keep winning."
