The Red Sox have endured a season full of up-and-down play and clubhouse turmoil, but there have been a few bright spots.

In addition to the emergence of Will Middlebrooks, who is expected to miss the rest of the season with a broken hand, Boston has added another in a long line of cult heroes. Pedro Ciriaco, 26, has played a career-high 33 games and several different positions for Bobby Valentine.

Ciriaco is hitting .327/.340/.459 with a home run and 11 RBI in 98 at-bats this season. He has also stolen seven bases without being caught. His on-base percentage has taken a hit because of his high strikeout rate. He has 20 Ks against just two walks.

However, Ciriaco has made a name for himself in the Boston area for his efforts against the rival Yankees in 2012. Nearly a quarter (22%) of his 98 at-bats (22, to be exact) have come against New York.

He is hitting .500/.522/.682 with six RBI and three stolen bases against the Yankees. He has struck out just three times and walked once. If you remove his numbers against New York, Ciriaco's batting average drops to .276 and his on-base percentage to .293.
